First accident: lorry crashed into a warning trailer

On Thursday morning (23 February), there were two serious accidents on the A2 near Hamm. In the first accident, a lorry crashed into a warning trailer. The trailer was on the hard shoulder to protect a team of road workers who were working on the central reservation.

The lorry driver was seriously injured in the crash. He was taken to hospital by helicopter. The road workers were not injured.

Second accident: two lorries and a car involved

The second accident happened a short time later, about 500 metres from the first accident. Two lorries and a car were involved in the crash. The car was crushed between the two lorries.

The driver of the car was seriously injured. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. The lorry drivers were not injured.

Police investigation

The police are investigating both accidents. They are trying to determine what caused the crashes.

A2 closed in both directions

The A2 was closed in both directions between Hamm and Beckum for several hours while the police investigated the accidents. The road has now been reopened.
