Born in precisely the kind of small-town American setting so familiar from his films, David Lynch has said that life after the coronavirus outbreak will be much kinder and more spiritual.

In a rare interview, the director of Mulholland Drive tells Matthew Sweet about his work.

"I think we're going to see a lot more kindness and compassion," Lynch says. "People are going to be more grateful for the things they have, and more willing to help each other out.

"I think we're also going to see a lot more spirituality. People are going to be looking for meaning in their lives, and they're going to be more open to exploring different spiritual traditions.

"I think it's going to be a very positive time for humanity," Lynch says. "We're going to come out of this stronger and better than ever before."

Lynch's latest project is a series of short films called Dream Diary. The films are Lynch's attempt to "conjure another kind of beauty" with his latest surreal project. The films are available on Lynch's website.
