BMW China Recalls 136 Million Vehicles
Millions of BMWs are being recalled in China due to fuel suction systems and starter motor issues.
About 105,000 vehicles are being recalled in the United States due to starter motor issues, BMW announced.
BMW and its joint venture, Brilliance Auto, are recalling 105,558 imported and domestically produced vehicles in China due to fuel suction system problems and starter motor overheating risks, according to China’s market regulator.
The recall, which covers 136 million vehicles, affects models produced between March 2010 and June 2022. The company said it will fix the affected vehicles free of charge.
The affected models include the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3, and X5. BMW said the fuel suction system issue could cause the engine to stall, while the starter motor overheating risk could lead to a fire.
BMW said it will notify affected owners and ask them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for repairs. The company said it is working with the Chinese government to ensure the safety of its vehicles.

BMW is also recalling 105,558 vehicles in the United States due to starter motor overheating risks. The affected vehicles include the 2020-2023 3 Series, 4 Series, X3, and X4 models.
BMW said the starter motor overheating risk could lead to a fire. The company said it will fix the affected vehicles free of charge.
BMW said it will notify affected owners and ask them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for repairs. The company said it is working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure the safety of its vehicles.
